While working in different schools late Mr. K. L. Patwardhan came across students who were genius but didn't get right opportunity and atmosphere to develop their latent qualities. Throughout his life, he was influenced by spiritual teachings of Ramkrishna Paramhans and thoughts Dr. Hedgewar. He also got inspiration from Dadarao Parmarth who asked him to serve the society/nation in his life. After his retirement as a headmaster, he decided to devote his life for enrichment of latent qualities of young, intelligent and capable children from the unprivileged and economically weak section of our society and making them into social assets. He talked about this idea to his colleagues and friends.

With the help of these friends and social workers, he established an institute "Swa"-Roopwardhinee" (the development of 'self'). At the same time, it was not merely a coincidence that the institution came to be founded in the International Year of the Child!
